Daily Dilemma

Try to see things from their eyes and you will realize that they suffer and there are no lies

They act as if everything’s fine when they cry all night

Put a smile on their face and live their life.

Why no one is there when you need someone?

What’s up with their story that they don’t care?

Well, you can only control what you do

Remaining things are not up to you.

That girl said we’d be together

Whether it is warm or cold weather

Just when you feel as if they’re your soul mate

They prove otherwise and you ponder over your fate.

Is it the world we live in then?

Where you have to buy your every friend

This is the place where no one cares

Where everyone is greedy and nothing is shared.

Your friends will tell you they’re with you forever

Next second they vanish and see you never

Blame game starts and you fight with them

Chaos happens and cause mayhem

You go home and try to sleep

Your head hurts as the demons in your head are too deep

Fear settles as your heart races

Your hands are trembling and your body is shaking.

We just try to pass each day

In this mundane life where no one wants to play

Life has itself become a big game

I have only one life and I have to change.

So next day I try once more

Only to find myself in the same spot I was before

I may go insane and lose control

If that happens promise me you’ll let me go.

Think like a winner!

There are two kinds of people in this world: victors and victims.

Victors are the kind who think positive and get back up easily when they are down.  No one has a perfect life but it’s the small things that need to be appreciated to be happy and content. They smile, they laugh at their mistakes along with others, they try to help others and they are full of hope. Ever met someone who seems always happy? Those people give a positive vibe no matter what the situation is. As a lot of successful people have also said, “you need to first think like a winner before you can be a winner.”

On the other hand, there are victims.  Victims complain how the life is so unfair to them. They whine and spend their life in misery. This part is not a problem. We all have problems and some have more than others but it’s the approach that still matters. Talking about your problems and discussing it with people is not something to be ashamed of. It is actually the first step to a solution. The problem arises when they only discuss it again and again without acting upon it.

Realizing is the first step.  Discussing your problems is the second and having a plan and executing it is the third. Victims usually succeed in the first two steps but fail when it comes to third. That’s when they become victims.

A person who creates, learns and think like a winner will achieve things and beat the odds in his/her life while a person who complains,  doesn’t try, doesn’t put in effort to achieve things will spend his life in misery. It’s a hard fact to understand that life is simply unfair. It’s you who has to decide what you want out of life.

So, are you a victor or a victim?

On an empty road

On an empty road at midnight
A boy walked alone wishing someone would say “Hi!”
Hug him and tell him not to cry
“I am here to be your friend, no worries and no good bye.”

Stay honest and loyal to him
He’ll be there for you when no one else will.
Deep down he knew he had a pure heart
Still people didn’t want to be with him and they torn him apart.

Suffering had become a norm to him
The pain was intense like he had recently hit the gym.
His future looked so dark and grim
He knew he had to hold on, keep going on and swim.

Then came a young beautiful lady, charming like a princess
He thought he had found his love, now he was fearless.
The only problem was that he had to let go of his shyness.
It was his trait so all his efforts went in vain.

The young lady did not return his love
He was left heart broken but knew he didn’t need her
Moving on was the only option left for him
But the pain was so intense
He found himself lingering on an empty road once again.

5 good things about being a minimalist

Early on in life I have learned to lead a minimalist lifestyle. Although, I used to believe that while being a minimalist I might be missing out on fun I have realized that learning the art of minimalism can help later on in life and it teaches patience which we teenagers generally lack. I have come to believe that minimalism is actually significant if you can’t afford expensive stuff. It also teaches us to buy valuable stuff and keeps our mind off of unnecessary things.

I like the fact that if you’re a minimalist then you have the liberty to buy things which you actually need rather than what you want and allows you to save more money than you would save if you bought useless stuff.

To think about it, there are clearly lots of benefits of being a minimalist-

1-Allows saving: If you are employed and live a minimalistic life then you have the liberty to save money and increase the figures in your bank account by a good margin after every paycheck. Learning the art of minimalism early on in life can save you loads of stress and hard work.

2-Stress-free life: Clearly, if you are satisfied with your financial situation then there is a high chance that you can spend your leisure time doing the activities you enjoy without thinking about when you will get your next paycheck so that you can buy that expensive new gadget you have been aiming to buy for the last few days. If your needs are limited, you can live a relatively stress free life.

3-Extra time: I guess this is the most valuable thing in the world. Lots of people have money but few have lots of time. Extra time to spend with your loved ones and going out to have fun with friends is probably the nicest thing to do in this world. After all, what is better than having a deep conversation with lifelong friends while being out for a dinner at a pleasant restaurant?

4-Focus on important things: Being a minimalist allows you to focus on what’s necessary and what’s not. Rather than buying an expensive gadget every month, it’d be better to try a new dish every once in a while.

5-Nothing to lose: If you don’t own much then you won’t have much to lose. Recently my android phone was stolen but I had bought it last year and it was so inexpensive that I didn’t feel too bad about it. Yes, I was heart-wrenched to lose it like that but due to the fact that I hadn’t spent a lot of money on it gave me a better feeling. Imagine getting an iphone 6 and then getting it stolen. Whoa! There are tears in my eyes even imagining it.

Minimalism is such a valuable art to learn early on in life. Half of our problems arise because we own too much stuff that we do not need to impress others. Get rid of useless stuff and enjoy the peace of mind that you’re more likely to attain if there are no distractions. Minimalism is all about setting your priorities right.

One Achievement and 9 steps

I had to write an essay for a website. Thought I’d share it on my blog as well. The topic was “tell us about one of your achievements and the steps that you took to achieve it.”

Here’s the essay:

Last year of school when you have only one last opportunity to show the academic potential you possess. When there is only one last chance to be among the toppers. One of my achievements so far on which I can be proud of is my last year of school when I scored 91% beating all the odds which were against me. Everyone I knew had written me off before the session even began and rightly so. I had never even scored 70% or above in the previous years of school. I had to take the criticism with a grain of salt and project my inside burning aggression on to my work. That’s exactly what I did and it was such a glorious moment when the results came out as I was sitting in front of my computer screen completely relaxed because I knew I had done all the hard work in the world and just had to reap the benefits now.

The result brought me even more joy owing to the fact that I had scored 95/100 in English, the subject I most enjoy. It was also a life changing achievement since it helped in boosting my self esteem and self efficacy. For the first time I had realized that hard work can bring loads of success only if you know how to balance your time and put the required effort. For the first time I started believing that nothing is impossible if you have the will to achieve something. It expanded my thinking horizon and changed my attitude towards life. It gave me a new point of view to look at things and made me more optimistic.

I took the time to set a plan and took steps to reach my final goal. The steps that helped me reaching my final goal were:

  • Time management- A lot of people talk about it but it’s really the most important part if you want to achieve anything. I used to make sure that I do physical activities in order to keep my mental health in check. Set a routine and follow it.
  • Adequate sleep- It is a part of managing time and setting up a routine but it had to be mentioned separately because so many people think that following a routine means assigning time for everything but often times they forget that sleep is an essential part to function properly. 8-10 hours of sleep is a must for everyone. I used to set proper time for sleep so that I could function properly in the school and had ample energy for studying later as well.
  • Make notes- Note making is crucial. Chapters are long and reading them thoroughly is required if you want to make proper notes. Reading long chapters again and again is time consuming and you might forget important points. It is always crucial to have well organized notes when you have to revise later.
  • Comprehend concepts thoroughly- I never had that ideology of studying for hours. It is a vague explanation about the way you should study. I always used to pick out topics from a subject and made a goal to understand them thoroughly. I never looked at the time and just made sure that I understood every bit of a topic completely.
  • Study everyday- A no-brainer. If you want to understand every bit of a topic thoroughly then you can’t expect to cram in a night or a month before. Study every day. As simple as that. Pick a topic and make sure you’re learning something every day. That was a crucial part to reach my goal.
  • Small goals- Do not think too far ahead. I used to set small targets and run at a brisk pace. Remember, you cannot run a marathon at top speed. Slow and steady wins the race.
  • Regular exercise- Being physically healthy also helps in staying mentally fit too. I made sure that I exercise every day even if it was brisk walking. It does wonders and helped me to focus better.
  • Take help- Whenever I found difficulty in a topic, I always took help from my friends, my teachers and my tutor. There is no shame in accepting that you’re having difficulty in certain topics. Taking help helps a lot and it is something which everyone needs at some point of time.
  • Positive Approach- I always believed in myself even when others thought I could not do it. Having faith that you will succeed brings a lot of positive vibes and you become a better person. With the right mindset, everything is attainable.

So, that was my mantra to reach my goal. It is not something which you can do overnight. A thorough thought process, proper planning and good organization are essential key elements when you are trying to reach a long term goal. I made sure I was aware of every moment and planned for everything way before. After all the planning, I just had to implement them and I did it. Hence, I reached my goal without putting a lot of pressure on myself.

Aggression

Aggression is destructive but sometimes necessary. Lately, it has been evident to me that whenever I am playing a sport such as football/soccer, I get quite aggressive.

Most people project their aggression by doing drugs, fighting and getting out their frustration on others by yelling at them.

However, the reason why I said that aggression is sometimes necessary is because, for a guy like me, it is tool to get me focused and determined.

Whenever someone sparks the aggression within me, it feels like that I have some paranormal powers to get things done. Aggression motivates me to do things right and make my life better.

Lesson of the day: Project your aggression in the tasks which have positive reinforcement attached to it rather than projecting them to receive negative reinforcement.

Last day of 2015

So, it was a wonderful  year. As always there were ups and downs and there were times when I felt completely shattered. I had to remind myself that these phases are bound to come in my way and that it is the journey that needs to be enjoyed and cherished. Lots of people come and go in life but you always have yourself in the end, you have the most amazing person in this world with you forever and that is you.

This was the year when I finished my high school and entered college with a reasonably good performance in examinations. This year I did a lot of different things and learned a lot about myself. Still have a long way to go but I am enjoying the ride.

I initiated different things and learned that it is important to remain in touch with friends, help each other, be with each other when the chips are down and completely stay loyal to each other no matter what. I have a fair share of mistakes I made this year but I am bound to make mistakes because I am just a human.

Hoping that next year will bring lots of happy moments and prosperity.

GEAR UP FOR 2016! Something amazing might happen.

What to do when you have nothing to do!

Well, it’s a break from college/school and we have nothing much to do. So what should we do?  Ah! Sitting at home all day watching YouTube videos is extremely mundane and boring. There is a need to shake things up a bit, something that will turn this monotonous routine into] an exciting one.

1- It is a great time to enjoy your hobbies: You will miss this time once the break is over so better start doing stuff you enjoy. Better late than never.

2- Go out with friends: Well, you must have some friends. Why not go out with them? Go to the mall or just do some fun activities in park. Time spent with friends is always fun.

3- Seek a new adventure: Even little things can make a lot of difference. Take a different route and just visit a new place where you haven’t been before. Surely, it’s fun but be careful as well. You do not want to get lost and never come back home, ha!

4- Expand your social media horizon: You have a lot of time to kill, so expand your social networks. Try different websites. Search something which you have never searched before. You might even learn a new skill.

5- Study: Well, yes it’s break but it doesn’t necessarily means that studying is not allowed. Study the subject which you actually love and which seems interesting to you. Perhaps, psychology is the one subject that appears interesting to almost everyone now a days.

6- Read novels: Again, some people might think it’s boring but actually, once you start reading them you’ll feel like there’s a movie going on inside your head. This feeling is highly addictive as well. Reading novels and connecting with characters provides an opportunity to live different lives and you learn many more things about life.

These are the things that you can do easily during the break from school/college. It is not costly at all so nearly everyone can do it. Good luck and enjoy the holidays.

Creativity and Intelligence

images (4)These are two different concepts. While traditional schools generally focus on measuring intelligence, creativity is as important as intelligence if not more.

Intelligence gives you a base to find out something or take the understanding of a concept to the next level. On the other hand, creativity is significant as well because having sufficient knowledge about a concept is not enough. Being creative leads to new discoveries and opens a new horizon to think about a concept at a deeper level.

Standardized tests that schools expect students to take measures intelligence. The examinations do not test the divergent thinking of a person.

Just think about it. We all learn to write, speak and listen. There are always people better than you no matter how great you become. So what is the difference between the students studying in Oxford University and a student studying in a different region but is more creative as compared to them? While, a native English speaker might have a much more enhanced vocabulary, it is still possible that a non-native English speaker use the English words more effectively as compared to the native speaker. It is all about how creative you can get with the strengths that you have. We can also conclude that it is really our choices that define who we are, not our abilities.

A student who has graduated with a degree in English might be more capable than someone who does not have a degree in this field but various circumstances in life can lead him/her to stay unfocused and s/he might never fulfill his/her potential while the one who just enjoys writing might come up with ideas that cannot be taught by anyone; which comes naturally.

Intelligence is significant in that sense that it measures your aptitude for a particular field. Aptitude refers to a natural ability in a field. However, there is a relationship between both these concepts. Intelligence serves the bases for creativity. You learn concepts, understand them and memorize them. Your ability to learn and comprehend the meaning of concepts makes you intelligent. Given a new situation including new problems requires creativity. You have to use your previous knowledge and apply to the newly arisen problem. With intelligence alone, you can give solutions to the similar problems but in the case of a completely new problem you have to use the previous understanding.

The best example of I can think of is recess. Gretchen Grundler is what we can call an intelligent girl and she is certainly creative as well but why is she creative if she’s intelligent? The reason is it doesn’t necessarily means being intelligent means you’re not creative. However, being creative does not mean you need to have a high IQ like Gretchen Grundler. Now, if we look at the other character, that is, T.J. Detweiler, who is the prankster of the gang is not even near to being superiorly intelligent but is highly creative. Pranks require creativity and he is a top-notch prankster. Despite being intelligently average, he earns all the points in creativity. Therefore, being intelligent does not mean that one is highly creative and similarly being highly creative does not necessarily means that one has high IQ.
